Dreamhost Network outage: website down for 12+ hours!

March 14th, 2011 No comments

from Dreamhost Status blog:

We’re sorry for the lack of updates on this issue. Unfortunately, there haven’t been any updates here because we don’t have any new information. Our network admins have been working non-stop since this morning to fix these problems, but we’re still not sure when it will be resolved.

This post is just meant to let you know that we are doing everything we possibly can to restore our system to normal and that we are not ignoring the situation. If you have already submitted a support ticket regarding this, you will receive updates by email as soon as we have them. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you and thank you for your patience as we try to get things back to normal.

A working Commodore 64 under water

December 10th, 2010 No comments

The team from dienstagstreff.de has demonstrated a Commodore C64 on the “Hobby und Elektronik 2010” in Stuttgart.

Demonstrating a C64 is not so special but this time the C64 was under water! They submersed a C64 circuit-board in water, connected it to a power supply and a monitor and the C64 work without problems for 1 hour.

 Aoyue 474A+ Desoldering Station

Autopsy:

My new desoldering station and a magnifying lamp has arrived!

After some frustrating times removing solder on an almost 30 year old PCB i decided to get a desoldering station.

So after using this for a few hours what one word can I use to describe this station? AWESOME! I don’t know how i lived without this in the past. Using desoldering braid or a soldapullt is OK but not consistent.

Package content of Aoyue 474A+:

  • 474 Station.
  • Desoldering Gun.
  • Filter pads 6pcs.
  • Silicone Grease.
  • Filter pipe.
  • Nozzle cleaning pins.
  • Power cord.
  • Desoldering gun holder.

iCade – iPad Arcade Cabinet

April 3rd, 2010 No comments

from Thinkgeek Homepage:

When the iPad was announced, we all crammed into a conference room to watch live and drool over every shiny corner and reflecty icon. After the glow of the initial announcement wore off, many of us came to the conclusion that the iPad was actually pretty useless.

“It’s a giant iPhone!” some said. Others exclaimed, “WTF, no Flash!?”. Still, we knew that most Apple fanbots (us included) would have to have one anyway. Knowing that many of our loyal geeky customers would eventually get their retractable claws on an iPad at some point, we knew we needed to take it to the next level.

What cool things could we do with the iPad that you, our lovely geek customers, would squee over? A few brainstorming sessions later, the idea of a MAME cabinet came up and we knew we’d struck gold. How cool would it be to slide your iPad into a desktop-sized arcade cabinet and rock it old school with some Pac-Man or Space Invaders?
