New Firmware v1.4 availible for Atari XL/XE Sys-Check V2 cartridge

July 18th, 2016 No comments

Below the post of the author on Atariage Forum.

A new firmware and flashtool is availible for Sys-Check V2 series.

The new flashtool now supports both Sys-Check PCBs equipped with a SST39SF010A flash chip (V2.1 and V2.2). When you start the flashtool, it will ask you which version you have. To be absolutely sure, the flashtool shows a simplified graphic view of both versions. I think, everybody can handle it :)

Of course the flashtool (and all other documents) are written in german and english.

Also there´s a new firmware V1.4 out. This firmware can be used with ALL Sys-Check versions – also with the old V2.0 (without flash). Owners of the V2.0 must burn the 16 KB firmware image into a 27128 EPROM. All other please use the flashtool to update their Sys-Check.

V1.4 has this minor changes:

  • Sys-Check can be used with the U1MB expansion.
  • The new version first checks the whole memory (to be more exact… the first 48 KByte) and then displays the defective bits (if there are any…)
  • When bad memory within the first 48 KB is found, the upper 16 KB will not be tested.
  • If memory is fine, OS-ROM will be tested as before.
  • If both tests are fine, then pressing START after this will set Sys-Check into endless loop test mode. Memory and OS-ROM are tested infinite – until any error occurs.
  • During memory tests the background will be coloured red if defective bits were detected.

SD2Snes Firmware v0.1.7a released

April 18th, 2016 No comments

Ikari has released a new firmware for the SD2Snes Flash Cartridge (Super Nintendo/Famicom). The upgrade instructions can be found here.

Here’s what’s new since preview 4:

  • Configuration menu. All settings are now available through the menu. Changes take effect immediately after confirming a setting with the A button. It can use some polish but should work fine. Note that the Video Mode settings are only effective on SuperCIC modded consoles.
  • SRM files (save files) are now stored in sd2snes/saves/<romname>.srm – existing save files will be moved upon save, there is no batch migration.

Game fixes:

  • DMA de-initialization has been reintroduced and changed from $00 to $ff. This reflects a real SNES better and hopefully finally fixes sprite corruption with SGnG and SSF2, AND title screen glitches/crashes with Pocky&Rocky US.

MSU1 enhancements:

  • MSU1 volume boost: In case MSU1 audio is too quiet you can now increase volume in several steps. Available via Configuration->Chip Options.
  • Interpolation filter to reduce aliasing, resulting in cleaner sound.
  • Fixed a bug where volume calculation introduced DC offset to the waveform output. This eliminates clicking or humming on volume changes/fades.
  • Changed MSU1 audio playback rate to exactly 44100Hz to match bsnes/higan implementation. Sound that syncs on bsnes should now also sync properly on sd2snes.
  • MSU1 resume feature implemented (Thanks to Michaël Larouche!)

Miscellaneous:

  • Missing ROM files are automatically removed from the “Recent Games” list. (Thanks to borti4938!)
  • Background text is now properly greyed out in the SPC player.
  • Ultra16 awareness (mostly thanks to borti4938!):
    • Ultra16 serial number and autoboot setting is displayed in the System Information screen.
    • Exiting from the SPC player doesn’t crash the menu anymore on Ultra16 consoles.
    • Soft reset is prolonged a bit on Ultra16 consoles so you have the opportunity to release the controller buttons, not entering the Ultra16 menu by accident.
    • Auto region patching is disabled on Ultra16 consoles so it doesn’t interfere with the Ultra16’s own facilities.

Critical & Minor bugs:

  • Firmware locked up when loading Zelda 3 after soft-reset. I am surprised that it actually worked so well with all other games.
  • Auto Region Patch setting wasn’t saved properly.
  • Satellaview custom time had a garbled default value (year 1035). The default has now been fixed. If you’d like to apply it you can delete your config.yml or just the “BSXTime” entry from it to load the new default.

1541 Ultimate II: New firmware v3.0 beta 5

October 18th, 2015 No comments

A new version of the firmware for the interface 1541 Ultimate II is released. This version runs only on the 1541 Ultimate II cartridge (new fpga).

Release notes 3.0 beta 5:

Major:

  • BUGFIX: Processor’s Data Cache stored result of IO read, causing wrong values to be read from the cache

Minor:

  • C64 Keyboard scan made a bit slower  (not tested)
  • Fixed configuration drop down
  • Fixed clock settings
  • Mount disk made first option in D64 file type
  • Updated Final 3 cart.

Release notes 3.0 beta 4 (first version released on Facebook):

  • The FPGA platform has gotten an upgrade. There is now a faster RISC processor on board (~10 times faster), and I have re-written the USB host controller, which has become ~50 times faster. The external memory of the FPGA also runs faster, and delivers now also approx. 7 times more bandwidth. With this faster platform, it has become possible to run a multithreaded OS.
  • There is now support for USB2LAN adapters, and 3.0beta4 runs two services: a (raw-)telnet (VT100) server that brings up the menu, and an FTP daemon for basic file transfer.
  • There is now support for reading the directories of D71 and D81 files in the browser.
  • There is a ‘CD’ command in the software IEC, and other improvements have been made to the soft IEC driver.
  • There is now a copy command in the file browser, that works with C=C/C=V (or CTRL-C / CTRL-V). It is not that fast, but for small files it works. You can also copy files from inside a D64/T64 to another location in the file system. The other way around is still under development, but will soon be possible as well.
  • UltiCopy is disabled for now, because it still needs to be ported to the multi-threaded operating system.
