Riparazione Monitor Commodore 1084S-P.

Difetto:

• Completamente morto con un forte fischio in sottofondo.

Riparazione:

• Appena sostituito il trasformatore di riga (AT2079 / 30102) tutto ha iniziato a funzionare perfettamente.
• È obbligatorio eseguire una calibrazione dello SCREEN e FOCUS con i due trimmer posizionati sul retro del trasformatore di riga.

Nota:

Un forte rumore come un fischio indica “quasi” sempre un malfunzionamento del trasforomatore di riga (noto anche come LOPT).

Jean-François DEL NERO (la persona che sta dietro lo sviluppo del Floppy emulator HxC SD) ha recentemente rilasciato una versione del firmware HxC compatibile con il chip STM32 utilizzato nel Floppy Drive Gotek.

Questo significa che possiamo godere di quasi tutte le features che il firmware HxC supporta anche per l’economico Floppy Drive Gotek.

Il bootloader per convertire il floppy drive Gotek in HxC compatibile va acquistato sul sito di HXC 2001 inviando un’email a Jean-François DEL NERO. Il prezzo del bootloader e’ di 10 euro una tantum per ogni Gotek che si vuole aggiornare/convertire. Gli aggiornamenti successivi del software sono gratuti e possono essere fatti da chiavetta USB.

Commodore CBM 8032 (HP – Early version 1980) – CompuThink Disk Drive Controller – External Dual Disk Drive – Woltron ROM-BUS Adapter.

• COMPU/THINK (CompuThink) Dual Disk Drive Controller con 8k RAM per Commodore PET 8032 (Potrebbe essere una scheda prototipo oppure un clone) con ASSY 001-35 – DD DSK CTL COMP).
• COMPU/THINK External Dual Disk Drive 800k DD/DS.
• WOLTRON ROM (CompuThink C-DOS & TOOLKit) + PET/CBM Expansion BUS Adapter + PIA (Peripheral Interface Adapter) Motorola MC6821.

Purtroppo non esiste nessuna documentazione in rete di questa scheda della Computhink che sembra essere un prototipo oppure un clone, inoltre non esiste neanche nessuna documentazione o foto del BUS/ROM Adapter della Woltron.

Ho passato notti insonne a cercare il SYS di partenza del software gestione disco su eprom, ho disassemblato 24k di codice (C-DOS Roms/Basic Roms Patched/Edit Roms Patched) in linguaggio macchina.

Ci sono riuscito e ho trovato il sys di partenza ($E790 – SYS 59280), sebbene sembra funzionare tutto e dopo il sys viene stampato sullo schermo (*DOS-40*) digitando il comando di directory ($d,1) oppure il comando per formattare ($f,1)
il floppy disk inizia a girare correttamente ma la testina non si muove, mentre funziona correttamente il comando di uscita ($h) inutile dire che ho sostituito l’FDC1791 e alcune logiche del controllo del floppy drive esterno e anche uno dei floppy disk drive, ma nulla e’ cambiato.

Il mio sospetto cade sulla PROM 82S123 di cui non esiste un dump, leggendo questa PROM di 32 bytes, solo i primi 8 Bytes risultano pieni, sara’ giusto cosi ? non lo sapremo mai.

Tutte le EPROM e la PROM sono state dumpate e le potete trovare nell’archivio qui di seguito.

Commodore CBM 8032 (HP Early version [1980]) Motherboard Repair (ASSY 8032030)

Difetto:

• Caratteri confusi e senza senso.

Riparazione:

• Sostituzione 4 x 2114 Static RAM (UC4 / UC5 / UC6 / UC7)

Note:

Come si puo’ notare dalle foto questo computer era gia’ stato riparato da un macellaio. Il macellaio non ha utilizzato degli zoccoletti dopo la sostituzione delle ram statiche e le piste avevano gia’ sofferto alla prima dissaldatura e saldatura probabilmente utilizzando una saldatore non adatto.

Il SuperPET è un Commodore PET 8032 con una o due schede aggiuntive progettate presso l’Università di Waterloo.

Il computer ha un’interfaccia RS-232C incorporata e molti linguaggi di programmazione su Floppy Disk. In Europa, questa macchina è stata chiamata MicroMainFrame 9000 o MMF 9000.

Iniziamo dal montaggio della scheda BMB Compuscience Ltd Board e Espansione Memoria Compu-Think 64K Board nel Commodore MMF 9000 (SuperPET)

Ho dovuto accorciare i distanziatori originali che erano installati nel computer perche’ la lunghezza era sbagliata per le due motherboard BMB Compuscience/Compu-Think 64K. I distanziatori cosi’ lunghi servono per la superPET Combo Board di ultima produzione.

Non e’ stato un lavoro semplice, ovviamente ho cercato distanziatori identici di questo spessore, misura, passo e alcuni con la vite lunga altri con la vite corta.

Tra una fase e l’altra ho anche approfittato di dare una bella pulita interna e esterna del Computer e della motherboard.

Purtroppo ci sono stati un paio di problemi dopo aver assemblato le due schede dell’MMF 9000 (SuperPET).

Difetti:

• La barra spaziatrice della tastiera non funzionava.
• Non veniva eseguito nessun programma della Waterloo in ambiente 6809, funzionava solo il menu di Bootstrap che permette di caricare i programmi da Floppy Disk, il monitor in linguaggio macchina e il setup che sono su Eprom.
• Il Dongle di protezione (6702) non veniva visto correttamente.

Riparazione/Fix:

• La tastiera dopo un bella pulizia ha ripreso a funzionare bene.
• Il Dongle dopo la pulizia dei contatti ha ripreso a funzionare.

Per i programmi che non venivano eseguiti in ambiente 6809 la riparazione e’ stata un po’ piu’ lunga. Ho utilizzato l’unico programma che funzionava sotto ambiente 6809, il monitor in linguaggio macchina.

Con questo programma ho potuto riempire la memoria con il comando Fill (f 9000-9fff aa) cambiando di volta in volta i bytes che andavo a scrivere nella memoria e ho notato con il comando (d 9000-) che non tutte le locazione di memoria venivano scritte correttamente.

Con il comando Bank Switch (b 0 , b 1 …) mi spostavo di banco di memoria , ci sono 16 banchi da 4k l’uno per un totale di 64k

Alla fine ho trovato 7 x 4116 RAM guaste (questa scheda era nuova, mai stata utilizzata), sostituite queste RAM tutto ha ripreso a funzionare correttamente.

Dunque il mio consiglio e’ di provare a caricare il software della Waterloo in ambiente 6809 per avere la certezza che l’espansione di memoria da 64k (vista Solo in ambiente 6809) funzioni correttamente.

Qui di seguito le foto di tutte le prove che ho fatto:

• Prova con la CPU 6502 (Standard Commodore 8032/32k) con accesso al disco, alcuni software in emulazione 40 colonne con il programma: 80240.prg
• Prova con la CPU 6809 di tutto il pacchetto software della Waterloo con accesso al disco.

Hoxs64 scritto da David Horrocks e’ un’ottimo Emulatore di Commodore 64 per Microsoft Windows 2K/XP/Vista/Seven (DirectX 9+).

L’emulatore riproduce sostanzialmente l’elettronica del Commodore 64 via software.
