L’interfaccia SIO2SD per Atari 8-bit XL / XE è un dispositivo che consente di caricare i giochi e applicazioni da schede di memoria SD/MMC. L’interfaccia viene connessa tramite il connettore SIO (Serial Input/Output) dell’Atari.

SD2IEC – è un’interfaccia hardware basata sul microcontrollore Atmel ATmega644 (ATmega1284p) che emula il Floppy Drive 1541 del Commodore 64/VIC20 e grazie all’usilio di una normalissima scheda SD possiamo caricare centinaia di giochi/demo e altro ancora al posto di utilizzare gli ormai ‘introvabili/obsoleti’ Floppy da 5¼ pollici.
Hardware e Firmware sono disponibili sotto licenza open source (GPL).

E’ stato rilasciato un nuovo aggiornamento firmware per l’interfaccia 1541 Ultimate di Gideon. Questa versione del firmware funziona solo con la versione della cartuccia 1541 Ultimate II e risolve alcuni gravi problemi durante l’aggiornamento del firmware.
Version 2.4c includes the fixes that TLR made to the firmware, and adds the following features:
- Extra checks added in the update program: Verify after flashing the pages and checking checksum of loaded files.

Version 2.4a includes the fixes that TLR made to the firmware, and adds the following features:
- Bitfiles don’t need (and can’t) be flashed on a 250E… (fix for MK1)
- Version updated to AC for MK1 as well (otherwise the software will annoy you until you die!)
- Cartridge list shortened. This avoids crash on cart change in config.

Version 2.4 includes the fixes that TLR made to the firmare, and adds the following features:
- CRT load (just by selecting the file, not on boot time)
- EasyFlash support (reading only, writing is not needed IMHO)
- Flashing and running custom FPGAs (Ultimate-II only), especially for those who want to do FPGA development without JTAG cable. FPGA bitfile will be flashed into the spare area of the Flash memory device, and the FPGA is booted from there. So there is no risk of bricking your device. (Flashing needs to be done for every boot still, optimizations will follow.)
For the rest, a lot of work has been done ‘under the hood’; especially in preparation of a native command interface to control the Ultimate from I/O space. But since this is not yet ready, it’s not included (=not enabled) in the 2.4 firmware.

La cartuccia Chameleon Turbo 64 è estremamente facile da utilizzare dal momento che non serve aprire il proprio computer perche’ si collega alla porta di espansione del C64.
La cartuccia può funzionare anche come unità “stand-alone” questo perche’ al suo interno il cuore e’ un chip FPGA che emula quasi (ancora in beta) del tutto un Commodore 64, compreso il Floppy Drive e puo’ essere collegata ad un normale monitor VGA (LCD o CRT).

Non sono passate neanche 6 ore dall’uscita ufficiale del nuovo Firmware per l’interfaccia 1541 Ultimate di Gideon che Daniel Kahlin (tlr) ha rilasciato il suo nuovo aggiormamento (non ufficiale).
Le novita’ e i fix sono gli stessi dei firmware custom precedenti e vi consigliamo di leggere l’History qui di seguito.

E’ stato rilasciato un nuovo aggiornamento firmware v2.1 per l’interfaccia 1541 Ultimate II di Gideon. Questa versione del firmware funziona Solo con l’interfaccia Ultimate 1541 II. La versione del Firmware per l’interfaccia Ultimate-I verra’ rilasciata nei prossimi giorni.
Major improvement in latest release:
- MAJOR bug fix: Updater caused to unit to fail when “Force update” was selected on the first batch Black boards (with Atmel Flash)…
- Updater updated: Now possible to clear all configuration pages in flash.
- Issue fixed with configuration of objects that did not have a config page yet (write/effectuate decoupled).
- Issue fixed with re-freezing into an empty D64 (or file with headers but no items); caused a blank screen.
- Version number of FPGA increased [to $A6], because REU was fixed. (See previous commit).
- Simulation environment set up for REU.
- REU verify bug fixed. More testcases to be added.
- …/target/simulation/sim/$ make reu_tc_1.gui will start ModelSim with the REU testcase.
- Missing simulation package added.
- SdCard cannot be renamed, of course… fixed…
