Con enorme dispiacere siamo qui ad annunciare la chiusura della rivista dedicata alla retro informatica e alla storia della cultura digitale “Jurassic News” nata nel lontano 2006.

Qui di seguito una parte del Comunicato Stampa apparso sul sito di Jurassic News.

Aprile 2017

L’iniziativa Jurassic News nacque nel 2006 con lo scopo di pubblicare una rivista amatoriale dedicata agli appassionati di retro computing in Italia, riproducendo quel clima che tutti ricordavamo negli anni ’80, quando attendevamo l’uscita mensile della rivista preferita per trovarvi notizie, prove, codice da copiare, etc…. In dieci anni sono stati pubblicati sessanta fascicoli, tutti diffusi gratuitamente e senza ricorrere a donazioni, banner pubblicitari o altre richieste di finanziamento.

Il nostro progetto è stato apprezzato da una vasta popolazione di appassionati in Italia (circa 1300 gli iscritti al sito; anche se molte possono essere le registrazioni doppie, rimane comunque un numero di tutto rispetto, considerano la verticalità del nostro hobby, certo non alla portata di tutti) che hanno scaricato dei numeri (circa 200 di voi li hanno scaricati tutti), inoltre sono state numerose le visualizzazioni su Issuu (una media di 1000 “contatti” per fascicolo), piattaforma che abbiamo utilizzato per distribuire la rivista in alternativa alla registrazione sul sito.

Nel frattempo il mondo dell’hobby del retro computing è profondamente cambiato. Sono cresciute enormi collezioni, si è fatta strada l’idea dei musei, associazioni sono nate, chiuse e poi rinate, le esposizioni si sono fatte numerose, appassionati sono usciti allo scoperto, altri si sono avvicinati al collezionismo delle vecchie macchine di calcolo,…. Quanta strada in dieci anni! Forse, modestia a parte, anche JN, nelle sue limitate capacità, ha contribuito ad una crescita consistente di questa passione…

Cosa sono le DiagROM?

Le DiagROM sono delle ROM diagnostiche per gli Home Computer della serie Commodore Amiga. Queste ROM tornano molto utili in alcune sistuazioni, tipo quando il computer non esegue correttamente il boot o si blocca.

Changelog:

• A lot of internal changes.
• But changed keyboardhandling in “Manual Edit” mode, hopefully keyboard works better now.
• Chipmemdetect at startup does more tests to capture more biterrors.
• Also added tests if CPU can do odd/eveb reads and writes. Request by Terriblefire.
• Added a testpicture as GFX Test
• Added test for RTC Chip, reads both types you have to know what chip is in your machine.
• Added a experimental Autoconfig support for Zorro II boards and memory, Remember that you can only run this ONCE.
• Autoconfigcode is based on Terriblefires code with addons by me.
• Audiotest now includes several notes and waveforms and also a module.

• 2017-01-30: In Manual edit: added when using “goto memoryaddress” when pressing x it clears the string totally. Also hopefully fixed keyboardbug making
  • it more or less impossible to use keyboard on some machines.
  • Fixed bug showing strange flickering spritebugs random
  • Changed that in initial chipmemdetecting it checks more combinations of bits, this will make detect slower (due to serial output) but will detect more
  • biterrors.
  • TEMPORARY function: pressing fire/mousebutton in joystickport while poweron will totally disable serialoutput. this is to be able to run with broken
  • Paula. Will look into a better solution. so function will maybe be removed.
  • Added a testmodule, A groupmember will make a chipmodule for me later to have here. Now using the classic “Echoing”
• 2017-01-06: Long time since last update. Hollidays etc. Anyway some minor internal fixes and a basic low-res testscreen added.

CBMXfer è una GUI o front-end per i programmi CBM4WIN/CBMLink che funzionano solo a riga di comando. Con un sistema a finestre elimina la necessità di imparare la sintassi di ogni programma.

The commandline utilities are:

• OPENCBM – transfers files/images to/from a real CBM drive connected via an ‘X-cable’ on the parallel port.
• CBMLINK – transfers files/images to/from a real CBM drive connected to a real CBM computer connected to the PC via a serial cable.

Relaunch64 è un IDE (ambiente di sviluppo integrato) per scrivere software in assembler per Commodore 64 su ambienti Windows, Linux e Mac OS X. Relaunch64 ha un’interfaccia utente molto semplice e intuitiva.

Viene richiesto Java 7 o superiore per eseguire il programma Relaunch64. Il programma è stato rilasciato sotto la licenza GNU GPL 3 (o superiore) ed è gratuito per uso privato e professionale.
