Rilasciato nuovo Firmware SD2Snes v1.11.0 Beta 1

Ikari ha rilasciato il nuovo firmware per la SD2Snes la Flash Cartridge per Super Nintendo/Famicom. Le istruzioni per l’aggiornamento le potete trovare qui.

Many people still think that a SID played with a SID emulator on a Mobile Phone or PC sounds absolutely identical to the one played with the SID in the original hardware version :-|

Arduino ARMSID configurator with ARDUINO UNO by Nobomi

Nobomi gia’ sviluppatore del famoso ARMSID e ARM2SID, ovvero un’ottima alternattiva sviluppata con STM32 del famoso chip sonoro del Commodore 64, ha reso disponibile una simpatica interfaccia via Terminale (putty) per aggiornare e modificare le configurazioni dell’ARMSID senza utilizzare il programma nativo che gira con Commodore 64.

Il progetto si basa su Arduino UNO REV3, dunque molto economico, i sorgenti sono disponibili su GITHUB e si puo’ acquistare QUI in versione KIT.

Nobomi ha anche azzardato un SIDPLAYER che gira sotto Windows e via seriale invia DATI e INDIRIZZI che vengono poi catturati dall’ARDUINO e inviati all’ARMSID e di conseguenza riproduce la musica ma non aspettatevi un SIDPLAYER perfetto, funziona ma non perfettamente.

Io comunque non lo autocostruito per questo motivo ma per modificare le configurazioni dell’ARMSID senza utilizzare il Commodore 64, questo mi tornerà utile per verificare eventuali problematiche quando implementerò nel SID Player “The Return of the Hybrid SID Player” lo switch in tempo reale tra 8580 e 6581 con chip sonoro ARMSID o ARM2SID.

Riparazione Texas Instruments Compact Computer CC-40

Texas Instruments Compact Computer CC-40 Plus Repair

Il Texas Instruments Compact Computer 40 o CC-40 è un computer portatile a batteria sviluppato da Texas Instruments e rilasciato nel marzo 1983.

Un modello migliorato, il CC-40 Plus, era nelle fasi finali di sviluppo e includeva una porta per cassetta. Il progetto pero’ è stato annullato quando Texas Instruments ha interrotto il 99/4A e ha lasciato il campo dell’home computer.

Riparazione:

Il computer e’ stato compresso all’interno dell’imballo della spedizione, evidentemente era stato imballato molto male.

Il PCB che e’ installato sopra a una delle due motherboard del computer (vedi foto) si e’ spezzato interrompendo una o piu piste dello stampato, e’ bastato ricostruire quella pista e il computer ha ripreso a funzionare.

Texas Instruments TI-99/4a Repairs (Sept 2021)

Riparate 5 x piastre madri TI-99/4A (PAL) con vari difetti

Difetti:

  • TI-99/4a #1: La scocca di metallo che protegge il pcb e’ deformata ed alcune parti creano dei cortocircuiti sul pcb.
  • TI-99/4a #2: TMS 9918 (U100) VDP inserito nel verso sbagliato (:/), incredibilmente non si e’ bruciato.
  • TI-99/4a #3: TMS 9900 (U600) CPU Morta.
  • TI-99/4a #4: TMS 9900 (U600) CPU Morta.
  • TI-99/4a #5: Apparentemente funzionante. (Note: rimasto acceso per oltre 4 ore non ha presentato nessun problema)

USB Stick STM32 (Gotek) Firmware v3.8.1.2a

Jean-François DEL NERO (la persona che sta dietro lo sviluppo dell’emulatore Floppy HxC SD) ha recentemente rilasciato una versione del firmware HxC compatibile con il chip STM32 utilizzato nel Floppy Drive Gotek.

Questo significa che possiamo godere di quasi tutte le features che il firmware HxC supporta anche per l’economico Floppy Drive Gotek.

Il bootloader per convertire il floppy drive Gotek in HxC compatibile va acquistato sul sito di HXC 2001 inviando un’email a Jean-François DEL NERO. Il prezzo del bootloader e’ di 10 euro una tantum per ogni Gotek che si vuole aggiornare/convertire. Gli aggiornamenti successivi del software sono gratuti e possono essere fatti da chiavetta USB.

USB Stick STM32 (Gotek) HxC Floppy Emulator Firmware v3.4.16.4a -> v3.8.1.2a cumulative changelog:

  • Build-in USB stick init / format function :
  • The USB stick can now be formatted/initialized for the “Image-less mode” by the firmware.
  • Remove the USB stick, press both buttons to enter the embedded menu and select the sub menu to activate the format mode :

AVGCART (Atari SD multicart) v0021 aggiornamento Firmware

E’ stato rilasciato un nuovo aggiornamento firmware per l’AVGCART (SD multicart for 8bit Atari) di tmp.

Non ho scoperto assolutamente nulla di nuovo, e’ tutto spiegato in questi video:

Sono assolutamente contrario al retrobright ma ho voluto tentare la sorte con uno dei VIC-20 quasi totalmente ingiallito, una tastiera di un’Amiga 1200 e il TOP Cover sempre di un’Amiga 1200.

Molte persone mi hanno detto di provare, ma non essendo d’accordo a questa tecnica non lo mai fatto, ma in un secondo momento e’ arrivato il mio amico Federico di Dato di Retrobitlab
che lo ha provato personalmente ed effetivamente sembrava funzionare, premetto che fin da subito non ci credevo, mi sembrava una cazzata cosmica.

Ok, mi devo ricredere, funziona!, qui di seguito ci sono le varie fasi e tempi di esposizione al sole (una bella giornata di sole!)

VIC-20 (fronte):

  • Iniziamo dalla prima foto appena esposto sotto il sole, poi 6 ore, 7 ore, 7 ore per un totale di 3 giorni = 20 ore.

VIC-20 (retro):

  • Iniziamo dalla prima foto appena esposto sotto il sole, poi 2 ore e 30 minuti, 7 ore e 30 minuti per un totale di 2 giorni = 10 ore.

Amiga 1200 Keyboard:

  • Iniziamo dalla prima foto appena esposto sotto il sole, poi 7 ore e 30 minuti x 3 giorni = 22 ore e 30 minuti.

Amiga 1200 TOP Case:

  • Iniziamo dalla prima foto appena esposto sotto il sole, poi 7 ore e 30 minuti x 3 giorni = 22 ore e 30 minuti.

E’ stato rilasciato un nuovo aggiornamento firmware per l’Ultimate-64 (U64/U64E) / U2 / U2+ da Gideon.

This release has again some significant changes and improvements over 1.37 / 3.9. The following bullet list gives an overview of the features and fixes. Below the items, a short explanation is added.

Changes in 3.10a, compared to 3.10

Fixes:

  • [Issue-246] Fixed: Virtual Printer crashes when file cannot be created.
  • [Issue-234] Deleting last item in directory makes selection invisible
  • [Issue-236] Confirmation modal asking a question only gives ‘OK’ instead of ‘Yes/No’.
  • [Issue-R17] Added mapping of ESC key to RUN/STOP.
  • [Facebook Request] Added: Leave menu on mount (can be selected per drive)
  • [Facebook Bug Report]: Allow Maverick (and others?) to write wrong sector headers on MFM tracks.
  • [Facebook Bug Report]: Unable to select GeoRAM. Is now a mode of the RAM Expansion Unit.
  • [Facebook Bug Report]: Fixed color palette not loaded at boot (U64 only).
  • [Facebook Bug Report]: Fixed USB sticks not recognized
  • [Messenger Report]: Improvements to palette file read. Rejects faulty files. Fixes hang-up
  • [Messenger Report]: Fixes ‘Create DNP’ when run from Telnet. Turned out to be a stack overflow.
  • [Email Discussion]: Adds EEPROM segment to GMOD2 when it is missing in the CRT file

U2:

  • Fixes that U2 updater killed the flash before asking to update, leaving a semi-bricked device.
  • Fixes drive sounds.

Modem:

  • ACIA NMI pulse extension to extend over bad line. This allows the 6502 to see it always.
  • Performance optimization ACIA / Modem
  • Allow spaces after ATDT command.

Cartridge Support:

  • Additional C128 cartridge variant that allows banking and offers some RAM (U2/U2+ only).

Added:

  • Illegal/undocumented opcodes to the CPU Emulator:
    • ISC (Combination of two operations with the same addressing mode: INC, followed by SBC)
  • Display emulation clock:
    • I used the same position of the OLED display where the sid Subtunes are displayed (if are present), otherwise if the song doesn’t support subtunes it will displayed in the same position the type of clock speed emulation: |CIA| or |VBI|.

Fixed:

  • DMP files additional information:
    • Display of additional information of the SID when a DMP files is played but there are no additional information to display in the header of the DMP files.
  • CPU timing:
    • Some months ago when i wanted to fix the timing of the 6510 CPU emulator i made an unforgivable huge mistake :-D
  • Random Playing Mode:
    • The load routine try to load a index of a file that don’t exist and everything freeze.
  • File error handling:
    • When an load error occurs and you are in the TUNEINFO mode the player don’t back to the FILE Browsing mode.

Il Mega Blaster 2 di Aidan Lawrence è un lettore di brani musicali (VGM) basati sull’hardware del Sega Genesis/Mega Drive e vengono utilizzati i veri chip audio per riprodurre la musica.

Il Player riproduce qualsiasi traccia musicale con un’ottima qualità utilizzando i chip YM2612/YM3438 e SN76489 PSG che si trovano nelle console Sega Genesis/Mega Drive.

Mega Blaster 2 è compatibile con i file .vgm e .vgz e può supportare sia YM2612 che YM3438 semplicemente modificando i DIP switch posti sul pcb.

Questo player non utilizza alcun suono emulato: solo i chip YM2612/YM3438 e SN76489 che riproducono i dati provenienti dai file vgm.

Added:

  • Illegal/undocumented opcodes to the CPU Emulator:
    • RLA (Combination of two operations with the same addressing mode (Sub-instructions: ROL, AND))
  • From an idea of Faber Pixel we have also added other information of the SID file on the small OLED screen (information available in the header of the file).
    • With a frequency approximately of 7 seconds, the Load Range, Init Address and Play Address in hex addresses will be displayed on the screen alternating with the information of the SID Name, Author and Copyright.

Sample:

  • Range: $1000-$2275

  • Play Address: $1003

Obviously the displayed address range is the real memory occupation.

Fixed:

  • The visualization of the SID Model of the tune that is playing every 5 seconds alternated between the playback mode icon. (Thanks Gianluca Renzi)
